Methodical seminar at the Faculty of Foreign Languages

A master class on the development of students interpersonal interaction skills was held at the Faculty of Foreign Languages within the framework of a faculty-wide methodical seminar.

On January 31, 2023, a regular methodical seminar was held at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, in which faculty lecturers took part. E.Y. Terniievska, a lecturer of Translation Studies Department, made a report on the topic “Development of interpersonal interaction skills on foreign language classes”.

The relevance of the topic is caused with the fact, that the institutions of higher education, especially linguistic ones, aims not only to equip students with professional knowledge and skills, but also to teach them to interact with each other. We mean the one of the elements of soft skills to which special attention is paid today. The speaker told how with the help of well-known exercises students can also develop interaction skills in both remote and classroom formats. In other words, she opened a new perspective on the things that were already familiar.

During the methodical seminar, a number of techniques and methods that the lecturer can use in foreign language teaching were considered, such as: “Work in pairs”, “Work in large groups”, “Brainstorming”, “Basket of ideas”, “Chain questions”, “Collective story”. The seminar participants tried one of the techniques on themselves, namely they used “Word Cloud”.

The methodical seminar ended with the speaker’s answers to questions and a lively discussion of the topic. At the end, the participants thanked E.Y. Terniievska for an informative master class.
