“Figurative Word of Luhansk Region”

The XXI All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference named after Viktor Uzhchenko “Figurative Word of Luhansk Region” was held at the University.

Every year, the Ukrainian Language Department of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University holds the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference, the ideological inspiration and organizer of which was the outstanding Ukrainian scientist – researcher of phraseology and its teaching methodology Viktor Uzhchenko. The Department continues the traditions of the “Figurative Word of Luhansk Region” – an event aimed not only at approbation of scientific and pedagogical achievements, but also at establishing the Ukrainian word in the unconquered Luhansk Region, unity with the whole of Ukraine.

This year, the conference was held on December 15-16, 2022 and was dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of the Ukrainian scientist Ivan Ohienko (Metropolitan Hilarion) – champion of the Ukrainian word, builder of Ukrainian statehood, public figure, scientist, lexicographer, writer, teacher, editor and publisher, translator, historian, culturologist.

The program of the conference traditionally provided for the participation of scientists, educators, and higher education students. This year, the conference attracted the attention of 112 participants – scientists and students from Poltava, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Sumy, who were issued certificates of conference participants.

The Ukrainian Language Department is sincerely grateful to all colleagues from different parts of Ukraine – those who responded, shared their opinions, the results of scientific research, implemented technologies and methods of teaching the Ukrainian language, and submitted their articles to the collection of scientific works.

All interested parties can view the materials of the conference. The organized collection contains articles devoted to such basic problems as the study of the scientific, pedagogical, and artistic heritage of Ivan Ohienko, the reflection of the scientist’s ideas in the works of Ukrainian researchers, masters of the artistic word; implementation of Ivan Ohienko’s pedagogical heritage by educators of Luhansk region and Ukraine; development of Ukrainian vocabulary, phraseology, lexicography; history of the Ukrainian language in personals; study of key concepts of Ukrainian culture; formation of civic competence in language and literature education; study of the field of Ukrainian phraseology in the local, all-Ukrainian and foreign context; study of the language picture of the world of a modern Ukrainian; formation and development of the spiritual world of a Ukrainian; analysis of a figurative word in language and literature lessons.

The collection presents the wonderland of the artistic word – in poetry and prose of students, placed in the rubric “Poetic Page”.

The perspectives of research on the broad issues presented in the publications of our dear colleagues, according to the compilers of the conference proceedings, are aimed at the study, implementation and spiritualization of Ivan Ohienko’s views on language, primarily the following: “Language is a form of our life, cultural and national life, it is a form of our organizing. Language is the soul of every nationality, its sanctity, its most valuable treasure… Our old and new culture is in the language, a sign of our national recognition. Language is not only a simple symbol of understanding, because it is formed in a certain culture, in a certain tradition… And as long as the language lives, so will the people as a nationality. There will be no language – there will be no nationality either.”
