Day of participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant

On December 14, Ukraine marks the Day of the liquidator of the worst man-made disaster in the history of mankind.

On this day in 1986, the construction of the sarcophagus over the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chornobyl NPP was completed. In November 2006, by decree of the President of Ukraine, on this date, the Day of Commemoration of the participants in the liquidation of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant was established.

Today, students of three structural subdivisions of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University: Brianka Professional College, Institute of Economics and Business, and Faculty of Natural Sciences honored the heroes who, risking their lives and health, saved our future. Together with deputy directors in social and humanitarian work, they visited Chornobyl Glory Square, laid flowers and observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims.

On April 26, 1986, the most terrible man-made disaster in the history of mankind took place – the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. We feel the consequences of this disaster to this day, and it is impossible to even imagine what they could have been if it were not for the dedication of the people who eliminated this disaster.
