Guest online lecture at the FNS
8.12.2022
On December 7, a guest online lecture “Legislative Foundations of Waste Management Regulation in Modern Conditions in Ukraine and Sweden” was held for students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
The head of the sector of the laboratory of atmospheric air protection and waste management systems of the Scientific Research Institute “Ukrainian Research Institute of Environmental Problems” of the Ministry of Environmental Protection Olena Volodymyrivna Tkachova spoke about the pressing issues for Ukrainian society and environmentalists – waste management in Ukraine and European experience and natural resources of Ukraine.
World experience shows that waste sorting and processing can significantly reduce the use of natural resources and energy consumption. In the countries of the European Union, Sweden is the leader in recycling and disposal of waste, in which almost 93% of waste is recycled. The “polluter pays” principle is currently key in the EU’s environmental policy and assumes that the costs of preventing and reducing pollution and measures aimed at restoring the environment are borne by the economic entities responsible for pollution. During the meeting, the listeners were interested in the sorting of household waste on the example of residents of city apartments and rural dwellings and the use of composting containers in communities.
We are sincerely grateful to Ms. Olena for a meaningful and interesting lecture, a useful professional meeting, and we hope for further fruitful cooperation!
