Festival Contest

Festival contest “No Flourishing without Roots” was presented during student meeting on February 3.

The contest is conducted upon an initiative of SE “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” supported by the Ukrainian Peacebuilding School with the assistance of “Ukrainian Association of Participants in Military Actions and Volunteers of ATO of Starobilsk District”.

The main goal of Festival is patriotic education and developing love of native land, respect for its history, cultural heritage, ambition to learn historical and cultural assets of our people, national consciousness and high morality of Ukrainian citizens.

Festival supposes search, development and support of talented youth and motivation for creative self-fulfillment.

Festival invites children (pupils of schools and out-of-school education facilities), students, public associations of children and youth, pedagogues, scientists, local history experts, public leaders and everybody who is interested in the history of city or village and preservation of historical values of native land. Creative families may apply for as well.

There is an exhibition before the final festival that accepts the items in following nominations:

  • traditional toys (dolls, figures of people, animals, birds, whipping-tops, rocking-horses, mills, furniture, dishes made according to old technologies or with artifacts);
  • copies (or originals) of old toys kept by family for several generations;
  • household items that can be the examples of traditional Ukrainian souvenirs from Slobozhanshchyna;
  • modern designer’s works – souvenirs made with apply of folk traditions and symbols of arts and crafts, with carvings, embroidery, decorative painting, weaving, clothing and so on;
  • pictures of amulets;
  • fine art works – amulets;
  • floral arrangements from different plants of this region that are the natural amulet;
  • floral arrangements of artificial flowers (wreaths, boutonnieres and amulet composition);
  • rag dolls made in traditional way or according to author’s project;
  • embroidered works – towels, aprons, belts, wallets, etc .;
  • products from beads – earrings, charms, head ornaments both for women and children, and so on;
  • literary works (prayers, poems, letters and essays) that are amulets or stories about amulets helped in life;
  • variants of excursion routes around the native town or village, history of streets and natural landmarks;
  • interesting family stories with the copies (or original pictures), stories of different generations representatives about the their family, stories about the origins of surnames, names and titles;
  • interesting stories (with samples or pictures) on the history of traditional costumes from different periods.

Festival is conducted from February 1 to March 30, 2016. The deadline for submitting creative projects is March 25, 2016. The election of winners will be carried out collectively on March 30, 2016.

Winning projects will be presented at the regular exhibition defined after Festival finishes. Also the winners will be awarded with the trip to Zaporizhzhia by UPS.

Organizing Committee invite everybody who enjoys creating, who values and develops fine art and traditions of native land and family.
