Webometrics has published an updated Ranking Web edition.

Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities has presented a world ranking of academic web presence by January 2016.

World ranking includes 12.000 universities and institutions over the world. 292 Ukrainian universities including Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University have taken their ranking positions.

According to the ranking, LNU is on the 46 position among the Ukrainian universities, on 1423 – among the universities of Central and Eastern Europe and on 2052 – in Europe. In addition, our university has taken 5803 position in continental ranking and 6329 in the world one.

It is to be recalled that the “Webometrics Ranking of World Universities” is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab (Spain). The first edition was published in 2004 and now it appears twice per year. It was created to motivate the universities and institutions to have a better web presence and to develop free access to scientific data.

The ranking is based on academic websites analysis that is why it includes only those universities that have their own Web-domain.

The ranking evaluates not education activity of the university but its web presence indicated by a special method developed according to Berlin Principles on Ranking of Higher Education Institutions that is defined by UNESCO.

It evaluates web presence, impact level of university publication on the world scientific process, web resources popularity and users’ level of trust.

Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities considers a number of search engine indexed pages of university websites, external links to it, resource citation and number of downloaded files on the website. So, it evaluates both content and information part of university website. It does not take into consideration site traffic and its design.
