Open Chinese language lecture for the University of Croatia

Lecturer of the Faculty of Foreign Languages held an open lecture at the University of Croatia.

The Faculty of Foreign Languages in cooperation with the Open University of Koprivnica (Croatia) held a joint event, which, according to its Regulations, was organized in the form of an open lecture on the Chinese language, which became a fundamentally new experience for a European university.

Olena Ovcharenko, lecturer at the Department of Oriental Languages, Vice Head of the Council of Young Scientists and Students, was invited as a lecturer for Chinese language classes for Croatian and Ukrainian audiences at the end of September. Activeness and curiosity were shown not only by local students, but also by refugees from Ukraine, who were forced to flee to Croatia from the war with the russian federation.

The theme of the event was focused on reviewing the features of the Chinese language, teaching the basics of its use in everyday communication. Visitors interested in Eastern culture and language were able to discover the ancient traditions of hieroglyphic writing and the unusual tonal sound of the modern Chinese language, as well as marvel at the logic of building hieroglyphs by trying their hand at calligraphy. The communicative orientation of the lecture helped the participants to learn how to greet, get to know each other and maintain a polite conversation in Chinese. At the end of the educational evening, the listeners practically immersed themselves in the tricks of the Chinese tea ceremony.

Conducting such events is an important component of the international interaction of our university with foreign partners, the promotion of foreign languages and cultures, and the involvement of new learners in the professional circle of translators and philologists of Eastern languages. According to European colleagues, the positive experience of such international cooperation develops the global competence of the teaching staff and students of both universities, contributes to the further entry of our institution into the European education system.
