International Translator’s Day
4.10.2022
International Translator’s Day was celebrated at the Translation Studies Department.
On September 30, translators around the world traditionally celebrate a professional holiday. International Translator’s Day has been celebrated since 1991. The symbolic date was chosen by the members of the International Federation of Translators, connecting it with the name of St. Jerome, the patron saint of translators. This interesting and creative profession allows people from different countries and continents to find a common language, get acquainted with the achievements of world science and technology, read the most famous literary works and watch masterpieces of cinematography.
The representatives of the Faculty of Foreign Languages have their own traditions for the International Translator’s Day, because it is here, at the Translation Studies Department, that a new generation of future connoisseurs of foreign languages and translation specialists is growing. The lecturers of the department congratulated the students on the holiday and wished their professional path to be bright, full of joy and satisfaction from work! Students of the first to third years and pedagogical staff of the Translation Studies Department actively participated in the celebration of the International Translator’s Day.
Associate professor Svitlana Perova held a master class for students on the translation of economic texts. During it students were once again able to make sure that it is a myth that anyone who knows a foreign language can become a translator. However, just as not everyone who speaks Ukrainian can become a writer, so not everyone who studies English can become a translator. The master class was useful for future translators and confirmed that there is always something to impress in this profession.
At the end of the meeting, Svitlana Viacheslavivna wished everyone involved in the translation profession health in this difficult time, and to those who are just learning the subtleties of translation – inspiration and desire to learn.
