Online training from Barbara Oakley

Teachers of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University joined the online training held by Barbara Oakley.

The war makes its corrections in all areas of life, in particular in the educational process. Thus, the “Progresylni” team together with the School of IT professionals “ProfIT” organized an online training “Effective Methods of Teaching and Learning During War”, in which teachers of our university took part. The lecture was given by Barbara Oakley, Professor of Engineering at Oakland University, researcher, writer, author of the most popular course on Coursera.

Teachers received effective advice from Barbara Oakley:

1. How to improve the teaching and learning process in wartime conditions, when students, in addition to knowledge, need support and contact with the teacher. This is needed more than ever, because in a state of anxiety, the brain does not absorb new knowledge well.
2. How to better develop students’ critical thinking skills using various technologies.
3. How to attract the attention of students with the help of striking moments and what will work most effectively. Teachders should have several options for each topic and offer them to students. This is especially important in the conditions of war, when the daily stress is too great.

It must be remembered that students need support, so it is necessary to create appropriate conditions when communicating with them.
