Teachers of the FFL took part in the event on the issues of obtaining international competitive grant funding for research.
Representatives of the Faculty of Foreign Languages (Deputy Dean for Social and Humanitarian Work, teacher of the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation Olha Korinska and teacher of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology Natalia Komlyk) took part in a meeting of Ukrainian scientists with representatives of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, the USA) Julia Kukharenko and Michael Leskiw.
During the event, the issue of obtaining competitive grant funding for research from the USA, the European Union and other international sources was discussed. The meeting was organized with the support of the Council of Young Scientists under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in a hybrid format (in the Kyiv scientist’s house and online).
According to the press release, the leading premise of the event is the fact that the research infrastructure of Ukraine needs both short-term and long-term assistance. Current domestic spending and foreign aid are directed toward immediate war-related needs. Long-term investment in research infrastructure is critical to Ukraine’s post-war economic recovery. For example, EU and US competitive research grants are the largest additional sources of external funding and many Ukrainian institutions can benefit from learning how to apply for and manage these grants according to the standards required by international fund sponsors. Current regulatory acts of the Ukrainian government can in some cases be adapted to increase the ability of institutions to compete with counterparts in the EU or the USA.
The intermediate result of the meeting is the analysis of the collected information and the continuation of cooperation with Ukrainian higher education institutions in order to determine the appropriate next steps, which may include trainings, seminars, selection of researchers, brainstorming, additional trips for the purpose of professional development and other opportunities.
