Participation in the “Internationalization Leadership Academy” project

The Foreign Languages Department of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University participates in the international project “Internationalization Leadership Academy” by Education USA Ukraine.
After a forced break due to the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, our university’s participation in the project was resumed. Recently, a meeting was held with potential partners – professors of educational institutions in the USA. The State University of New York Maritime College became the partner of Luhansk Taras Shevcheko National University. Together with a representative of SUNY Maritime College, the Foreign Languages Department will develop a joint course of study that will include students from Ukraine and the USA and will be implemented in autumn 2022.
The Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is an approach that brings together students and teachers from different cultures to learn, discuss and collaborate as part of their classroom. Professors collaborate in the development of experiences, and students collaborate in the implementation of the developed activities. COIL becomes part of the classroom, allowing all students to have a meaningful cross-cultural experience during their studies.
Features of the COIL:
- can be created in any discipline;
- interdisciplinary cooperation works well;
- encouraging students to active learning and teamwork;
- emphasis on intercultural interaction and understanding;
- can last from 5 to 15 weeks.
The COIL component can be taken throughout the course or as a module lasting several weeks over the course. The minimum recommended duration of the COIL module is 5 weeks.
