Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University has been participating in the transnational (international) project “Unity Initiative” since May 2022.
The project is supported by the Presidential Fund for Support of Education, Science, and Sports in partnership with the Association of Universities of Great Britain and the Cormack Consultancy Group.
During June 27,2022 – July 01, 2022, our University was involved in a number of project activities, including a consulting meeting with representatives of the University of Bath, Great Britain, regarding the development of an algorithm for the active phase of cooperation in accordance with the directions outlined in May 2022, including:
- support in the purchase of a video conferencing system, which will facilitate the contact of the university’s structural subdivisions with each other, as well as the university with foreign partners;
- improving the conditions for providing services for the university library (taking into account the features of the online repository system);
- providing access to University of Bath online libraries;
- joint development of professional training programs for scientific-pedagogical and administrative staff (aspects of the internationalization process in higher education institutions, including COIL technology in the teaching-learning process);
- student mobility windows for bachelor’s / master’s / doctor of philosophy students, etc.
On June 28, 2022, the Head of the International Relations Department, Iryna Myhovych, took part in an online conference within the project, during which partnership agreements were signed between the participants of the first cohort, as well as information sessions were held on the peculiarities of study and research work in academic institutions of Ukraine and of Great Britain. A landmark event in the history of higher education in Ukraine was held with the participation of rectors of UK universities, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK, Mr. Vadym Prystaik, the Ambassador of Great Britain to Ukraine, Ms. Melinda Simmons, and the authorized representative of the President of Ukraine for the support of education, science, and sports, Ms. Olha Budnyk.
Cooperation in the format of “twin universities” is a unique and extremely effective model for overcoming the challenges that Ukrainian universities faced under martial law. Among the strategic areas of cooperation between Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University and the University of Bath are the joint implementation of educational programs, academic mobility programs, joint scientific research, access to modern laboratories, online courses and other resources for students, representatives of the teaching staff of our university and researchers.
The Unity Initiative is a sign of support for the Ukrainian educational and scientific community on the part of UK universities. Thus, they help us to hold the educational front. The name “twin universities” once again emphasizes the willingness to help, support and shared values”, it was repeatedly emphasized during the conference.
