23.5.2022
Traditionally, on the third Thursday of May, the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications celebrates Vyshyvanka Day.
Take care of Ukrainian – wear Vyshyvanka!
Lina Kostenko
Vyshyvanka is not just clothing and fashion trend, but is the main talisman of the Ukrainian people. The ornament, which was applied to the shirt, contained certain symbols that were supposed to protect the wearer from evil spirits and misfortune. The embroidery was applied to the sleeves and collar so that it touched the body. It was also believed that there should be no knots on the reverse side of the embroidery, as they can bring misfortune. Vyshyvanka is a national shrine, the genetic code of Ukrainians, because it symbolizes and carries the spiritual wealth, high wisdom and traditional ties of many generations. Embroidering a shirt meant purifying the soul.
This year the staff of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University had the opportunity to celebrate the Vyshyvanka Day in the Poltava Academy of Continuing Education named after M.V. Ostrogradskyi at new jobs, where a mini-concert was organized by the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts. Representatives of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications also expressed a desire to show off their embroidered shirts and take photos with the heads of higher education institutions, in particular, with the Rector Olena Karaman. The rest of the teachers had the opportunity to send their newly created or archival photos to the dean’s office.
The patriotic spirit prevailed during the celebration. May our patriotism help to defend Ukraine and make it whole and successful and closer to Victory!
Happy Vyshyvanka Day!
