Vyshyvanka Day at the ER IPP

On the occasion of the World Vyshyvanka Day, students and teachers of the ER IPP organized a contest “Vyshyvanka – Your Genetic Code.”

The World Vyshyvanka Day is a holiday that Ukrainians celebrate every year. From ancient times the Slavs used flax and hemp cloth, red and black threads to make embroidered shirts. It was also important for whom it was embroidered – for a girl, a boy, a woman or a man, for soldiers. Historians claim that Ukrainians have been embroidering shirts since ancient times, enchanting them with health, luck or love. Vyshyvanka is one of the brightest symbols of the Ukrainian national and civic consciousness.

The first to celebrate the Vyshyvanka Day was in 2006, when a student of Chernivtsi National University Lesia Voroniuk invited her groupmates to come to class in embroidered shirts. The initiative was supported by both teachers and students of the entire educational institution. For several years, the holiday was celebrated only within the university, and then this tradition spread to other cities in Ukraine. In peacetime, people organized flash mobs and fairs, competitions and concerts in different parts of Ukraine. Nowadays, in wartime, the Ukrainian Vyshyvanka is not just an element of the wardrobe, but also a powerful amulet.

Our young people realize that vyshyvanka is not just beautiful clothes, but also a manifestation of the national position. Thus, this holiday symbolizes not only spirituality, uniqueness and patriotism, but also the national and cultural identity of each of us.

Congratulations on Vyshyvanka Day! We wish peace and harmony, inspiration and strength for the victory and prosperity of Ukraine. Let’s protect vyshyvanka – a symbol of faith, hope, love, courage, struggle and unity.
