History Faculty’s online event dedicated to the Vyshyvanka Day
19.5.2022
The Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences organized an event dedicated to the history of embroidery development.
“The prototype of the modern embroidered shirt appeared on the territory of the future Ukrainian state since the Eneolithic. Embroidery of certain patterns, which encrypt important codes and symbols for ancient farmers, is part of the worldview, elements of which are inherent in modern Ukrainians “, – this is the first thesis of the Doctor of History, Head of the Ukrainian History Department Oleksandr Naboka, whoto began the online meeting dedicated to the Vyshyvanka Day.
This holiday, as you know, has always played a special role in the public life of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University after 2014. Despite the Russian aggression unleashed in February this year and another forced evacuation, “History Faculty” has not abandoned this glorious tradition, bringing in students of history from different backgrounds. Oleksandr Viktorovych focused on covering the history of the development of embroidery as an important social and political symbol of the Ukrainian people. In particular, he said that the first practice of wearing this element of folk clothing in combination with European costumes and pants was introduced by prominent Ukrainian writer and politician Ivan Franko, in order to emphasize his national identity, which was decisive in certain ideologies of his public activities.
The event was very interesting for the audience.
