Happy World Vyshyvanka Day!
19.5.2022
Dear students, postgraduate students, doctoral students, teachers and staff of our famous university! We sincerely congratulate you on the World Vyshyvanka Day – one of the brightest national symbols of Ukraine!
The Ukrainian embroidered shirt (Vyshyvanka) is a shrine, a national amulet and a genetic code of Ukrainians. It symbolizes and carries the spiritual wealth, high wisdom and connection of many generations. And without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful national costumes in the world!
This year, in the context of a full-scale war in Ukraine, this holiday is of special significance, as Vyschyvanka is a symbol of faith, hope and steadfastness of the Ukrainian people. Vyshivanka is the spiritual armor of Ukrainians! Unfortunately, due to enemy aggression and forced evacuation to Poltava, we are not able to celebrate this holiday traditionally: to hold a university-wide photo contest “My Family in Vyshyvanka”, an exhibition-contest of embroideries “Colors Intertwined Like a Rainbow”, to decorate student dormitories.
However, we still have one incredible tradition, started at the university in 2014: to present Vyshyvanka to newborns of teachers and staff of the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts in Poltava.
We are convinced that Victory will come, and we will definitely restore all university traditions on the Vyshyvanka Day in our native walls! And today, each of us who is currently safe can wear an embroidered shirt to maintain the spirit of Ukrainians and Ukrainian soldiers. Today we offer you to change your usual clothes for vyshyvanka and honor the traditions in the family circle.
We sincerely congratulate all Ukrainians of the world on this special day! We want life to be as colorful and bright as the glorious patterns on the embroidered shirts. And may this holiday unite all those who are in this difficult time with heart and soul with Ukraine!
Happy holidays to you!
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to heroes!
Yours faithfully, Vitalii Kurylo, Chairman of the Academic Council
and the Rector of the University Olena Karaman
