Europe Day
16.5.2022
On Europe Day, May 9, the Department of Political Science together with the Department of World History and International Relations held a meeting of the Political and Legal Club.
On May 9, 1950, in Paris, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman called on France, Germany and other European countries to unite their coal and steel industries (the basis for building military equipment) and hand them over to a new supranational structure. This became the “cornerstone of the European Federation”. By combining economic efforts and sharing the results achieved, European countries have avoided the accumulation of military power against each other, which has ensured peace in Europe.
Europe Day is celebrated on May 9 in European cities. Many citizens hang EU flags from their windows.
In Europe, as a rule, educational events about the European Union, cultural and creative initiatives, and support for European integration are held on this day. College students, university students and employees of large enterprises hold imaginary debates in which proposals are made to improve the quality of life in a city or country.
Therefore, the Department of Political Science together with the Department of World History and International Relations also decided to keep up and celebrate Europe Day, starting a new tradition. On this day, a meeting of the political and legal club was held on the Zoom platform, where students of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) level of education had the opportunity to discuss and share their vision of Europe, its values and Ukraine’s European future.
