Online seminar on mine safety
12.5.2022
The university hosted an online seminar “Fundamentals of Safe Behavior in the Presence of Risks Associated with Explosives.”
The event was organized on the initiative of Luhansk and Donetsk regional branches of the Committee on Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science together with the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports. Its holding is due to the extreme urgency of the risks associated with the explosive objects. After all, according to the Association of Sappers of Ukraine, as of April 27, 2022, the estimated area of contamination with explosives as a result of Russian aggression was more than 130 thousand square kilometers. At the same time, at the International Donors’ Conference in Support of Ukraine in Warsaw, held on May 6, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that today more than 300,000 square kilometers of Ukraine are contaminated with mines or shells that did not explode. Taking into account the experience of countries with mine problems, demining of the territory of Ukraine can take decades.
The speaker of the event was Oleh Vinogradov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Human Health, who underwent a training course for Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) instructors. The seminar was attended by more than 110 teachers and applicants for higher education, teachers of secondary schools, coaches and teachers of children’s and youth sports schools, representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and the Committee on Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Vadym Stetsenko, Chairman of the Committee on Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Oleksandr Dubovyi, Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports, addressed the online audience with welcoming words.
During the online seminar, participants discussed the possible consequences of pollution with explosive objects, the content of international standards and legislation of Ukraine in the field of mine action, rules of safe behavior in the presence of mines and explosive objects, focusing on three key elements of mine safety: DO NOT APPROACH! DO NOT TOUCH! CALL “101”!
Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
