Days of Oriental Studies at the Faculty of Foreign Languages

On May 3-5, the Faculty of Foreign Languages hosted scientific and practical conferences with international participation “Ukraine – China: Dialogue of Cultures” and “Modern Trends in Oriental Studies”.
The traditionally high level of high-quality international activity for the Faculty of Foreign Languages was reflected in the participation of the following honored guests in conferences: Guo Xiaoli – Professor, Director of the Far East Research Center of Harbin Pedagogical University; Alyona Sukhinina – RELO Office Project Coordinator (US Embassy in Ukraine); Katarzyna Banka-Orlowska – Professor, University of Silesia in Katowice; Irfan Torsunogli – researcher at the University of Nottingham, UK, and Professor of Karabuk University.
The plenary session was opened with a welcoming speech by the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Iryna Myhovych, who stressed the cultural and institutional importance of conferences, since 2003, the Faculty has been implementing joint projects with scientific and commercial institutions of the People’s Republic of China (Shandong Province Shawang Company, Suzhou Technical University, etc.) in accordance with international cooperation programs.
In 2005, an agreement was signed with China to establish the Confucius Institute (recognized in 2013 as the best among such cultural and educational centers in the world) and the Center for Education, Science and Culture at the Dacin Pedagogical Institute on the basis of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
The scientific tradition of the university in the field of research of the peculiarities of the Japanese language and culture is also strong, which is based on cooperation with diplomatic missions of Japan, involvement of foreign citizens in teaching Japanese and so on.
The following people took part in the work of the Chinese language section: D.O. Perepadia, Associate Professor of LTSNU; Chen Hong, Professor at the Center for Far Eastern Studies; Wen Xuimei, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Foreign Languages; Harbin Pedagogical University scholars including Guo Linlin, Yang Jiaxuan, Liu Panpan, Liu Yuhan, Li Hoijiao, Len Kun.
Higher education applicants and master’s students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University presented the results of their research on the features and development of the Chinese language, the literary aspect of Sinology.
The following people took part in the work of the Japanese language section: Yu.V. Malakhov, Associate professor of LTSNU; O.D. Borzova, Japanese language teacher; scientists from Japan and the United States – Shinichiro Ozawa and Alexander Lennartz. Students presented the results of their Japanese language research, innovative technologies in teaching foreign languages and cultures, the identity of Eastern culture, political, civic and moral education in Japan and Ukraine, as well as socio-cultural and intercultural issues of translation.
Days of Oriental Studies at the Faculty of Foreign Languages became a territory of synergy for Ukrainian and international experts on the issue, a zone of communication and mutual assistance for professional growth in Chinese and Oriental Studies, a platform for strengthening image, preserving and increasing traditions both for the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
