Discussion chat forum
29.4.2022
Within the framework of the Science Days, the Department of Philosophy and Sociology held a discussion chat forum “Sociological Research under Martial Law: Methodological Perspectives of the Study of Everyday Life” in Telegram.
This format is chosen because there are localities where there are some teachers and students who do not have a stable Internet connection, and the chat forum format allows you to exchange views in real time, even when the connection is unstable.
Teachers of the department and bachelor’s students took part in the discussion. The event took place in several stages. At the first stage, students and teachers received a topic of discussion chat forum and reflected on it. On the second – everyone could share their thoughts, literature, questions and more. During the third stage, which ended this week, participants were able to discuss methods, techniques, concepts, risks during the field phase of the survey and develop some conclusions and vectors for future work.
We came to the conclusion that modern theory does not have a universal methodological framework not only for the study of everyday life, but also everyday life during the war. And although among the studies of everyday life there are thorough and exemplary works not only of foreign colleagues, but also domestic ones, specific sociological studies of everyday life in wartime are almost non-existent. No method was found to meet the requirements of safety and validity, so it was decided to try some tools that need clarification and modification: a chronograph questionnaire and a diary questionnaire.
