Khrystyna Alchevska: Dialogue Through the Centuries

As part of the University-wide Science Days, the Pedagogy Department held a webinar for teachers and students.

The interest in the pedagogical heritage of the famous educator and our compatriot Khrystyna Danylivna Alchevska united teachers of the ER IPP and applicants of the first (bachelor’s) level pedagogical specialties and the second (master’s) level of our university at the open webinar of the Pedagogy Department on April 28. The speaker was Liudmyla Butenko, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Pedagogy Department.

Appeal to historical figures is now very important for the system of national education, which is now forced to develop in difficult social conditions: on the one hand, it protects against pseudo-innovation in pedagogy on the way to finding effective methods and technologies of teaching and educating young people; on the other hand, it has great potential for the whole pedagogical community and students, future teachers, to realize the rich and significant historical heritage of our eastern region in the process of origin and formation of the national education system in Ukraine, because education and science have always been a solid foundation for independent and today it remains the solid foundation that will allow our country not only to win the war started by Russia, but also in the process of further building a democratic society.

Such a figure for us is Khrystyna Danylivna Alchevska – Ukrainian teacher, progressive public educator, founder and teacher of Kharkiv Private Women’s Sunday School and Public School in the village Oleksiyivka in the Yekaterinoslav district (now the Perevalskyi district of the Luhansk region), where another famous Ukrainian pedagogue and writer B.D. Hrinchenko taught. She devoted almost six decades of her life to public education and left a significant contribution to the development of education and culture in Ukraine. Alchevska combined the rare gift of a theorist, experimenter, talented teacher and considered public education one of the main factors in the cultural and spiritual revival of the native land and the development of society.

During the scientific webinar, participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with little-known personal and professional biographies of one of the brightest representatives of the Ukrainian intelligentsia of the XIX century, a follower of pedagogical ideas K. Ushinsky on teaching and educating young people on the basis of nationality. Particular attention was paid to the experimental achievements of Khrystyna Danylivna, in particular those related to the methods and forms of educational activities, the organization of the educational institution and the requirements for teaching staff.

At the end of the webinar, all participants gladly exchanged views on their vision of the role of pedagogical heritage of the famous Ukrainian pedagogue and thanked the speaker for an interesting and meaningful analysis of historical and pedagogical sources.
