Round table at the Ukrainian Language Department

Within the Science Days a round table “Functions of the Ukrainian Language in the Modern Socio-Educational Context” was held.
On April 21, the Department of Ukrainian Language held a round table entitled “Functions of the Ukrainian Language in the Modern Socio-Educational Context.”
The scientific event within the program of Science Days at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology took place online.
The purpose of the round table was to highlight and discuss current issues of the Ukrainian language in social and educational conditions today, in particular in the teaching of linguistic and methodological educational components, theoretical and practical mastering by students.
The epigraph of the meeting was the winged statement of the famous Ukrainian scientist Ivan Ogienko: “Language is the soul of every nationality, its sanctity, its most valuable treasure. In language our old and new culture, signs of our national recognition… And while the language lives – the people will live as a nationality. If there is no language, there will be no nationality: it will be completely scattered among the stronger people… ».
The present teachers of the Ukrainian Language Department and applicants for higher education were invited to discuss current topics, in particular:
- Genesis of functions of the Ukrainian language: historical development, modernity and prospects.
- Language education of Ukrainians as the property of the nation.
- The nation-building basis of the linguistic worldview of the modern Ukrainian.
- Language as an ethnocultural phenomenon in the professional training of vocabulary teachers.
- Functioning of the Ukrainian language and spelling norms.
- Speech etiquette as a means of personal and national identification.
- Educational technologies, methods and techniques of mastering the functions of language by students.
Following the discussion of scientific and methodological issues of the round table, experienced scientists and novice researchers concluded that the modern socio-educational context requires increased attention of teachers as organizers of linguistic and methodological education of future teachers of vocabulary to analyze the functioning of the Ukrainian language orally and in writing.
In interaction with non-verbal means of communication, and students during the acquisition of linguistic and methodological disciplines learn various functions of the Ukrainian language, learn to analyze the context of language functioning, its potential as a means of learning in school lessons.
The communicative function of the Ukrainian language is primarily in the creation of certain meanings, precedent phenomena, compliance with etiquette formulas.
Emphasis was placed on the fact that the study of the functioning of the Ukrainian language in today’s realities shows the accumulation of historical processes and trends, future identification of the parity of the Ukrainian language as a means of nation-building, cultural identification, critical thinking, spirituality and universal values.
