Event dedicated to the Science Days
21.4.2022
On April 19, the Department of Journalism and Publishing hosted a traditional event dedicated to the Science Days.
Research work is one of the leading activities of the Department of Journalism and Publishing. Thus, graduates of the specialty “Journalism” under the guidance of teachers regularly participate in various scientific events: scientific and practical conferences, contests, scientific competitions. The scientific component of student creativity is key in the activities of the Youth Scientific and Professional Media Club of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications.
This year’s theme of the Science Days is quite important and relevant – “Media Communications in War.” Its topicality is justified by the functioning of the mass media during military aggression and information confrontation, where a special role is given to regional media – a constituent of the national media space, an important tool of information policy and security on the way to victory of our state.
The scientific event was opened by the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications with a welcoming speech. Teachers of the Department reported on the consequences, outlined the situation and emphasized the prospects of research activities of applicants at all levels.
The participants’ reports were thematically focused on four main areas:
- functioning of electronic media during the war;
- volunteering as a social and communicative phenomenon;
- coverage of military issues in the media of various kinds;
- The media as a means of overcoming military aggression.
The higher education applicants prepared research papers and presented their results online. The event was joined by participants of the second stage of the All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Research Papers and scientific-practical conferences, presenting their achievements to the general public. The process of discussing the reports was interesting and relaxed, there was a friendly atmosphere, and lively discussions gave rise to a number of productive ideas for the future.
The practical implementation of the scientific postulates voiced by the participants of the Science Days was due to the participation of practicing journalists – former graduates of the Department of Journalism and Publishing. The media shared their own experience of journalistic activity in the conditions of war, revealed the legal bases of journalistic practice in the conditions of martial law, determined the specifics of the work of a military journalist in extreme conditions of hostilities.
The participants of the event lively discussed the current features of the work of journalists, shared their own experiences gained during the internships, expressed their own vision of the current situation in the media space.
