On April 15, the Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies hosted the traditional XI Student Algebra Olympiad dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian algebraist, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor Vitalii Mykhailovych Usenko with the help of the popular online communication service Zoom and Telegram and Viber messengers.
The scientist worked at our university from 2001 to 2006 and during this period made a significant contribution to the development of algebra in Luhansk region and Ukraine. At the initiative of Professor Vitalii Usenko and with the support of the university management in 2002 was organized the world-famous mathematical journal “Algebra and Discrete Mathematics”, which since 2012 is included in the international scientometric database Scopus, and since 2016 – in the database Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science) data.
Usually the Algebra Olympiad is held for students of mathematical specialties and takes place in one round. The tasks offered to students were of general algebraic nature and belonged to the classical sections of mathematics.
The winner of the Olympiad was a second-year student majoring in “Secondary Education (Mathematics)” Alona Tselukhina. The second place was taken by Dmytro Dvornikov, a first-year student majoring in Secondary Education (Computer Science). The third-year student majoring in “Secondary Education (Mathematics)” Kostiantyn Kiselyov took the third place.
Congratulations to the winners and we wish all participants further success!
