Participation in the Scientific Conference

The Department of Philosophy and Sociology is working to strengthen international scientific ties and to include them in the scientific programs of the EU.
April 13, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology Prof. Ilia Kononov took part in the Scientific Conference “Ukrainian Revolutions and Russia’s Wars with Ukraine in 1917 – 1921 and in 2014 – 2022 – similar and different”. The scientific event was organized by the Richard Pipes Laboratory (Laboratorium im. Richarda Pipesa), which operates at the Institute of Political research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The conference was opened and moderated by Prof. Tomasz Stryjek from the Institute for Political Studies of the Academy of Sciences.
Reports made by prof. Jan Jacek Bruski from the Jagiellonian University and prof. Ola Hnatiuk from the University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the University of Warsaw.
A special guest from Kyiv, Prof. Vladyslav Verstiuk from the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine made a report.
Prof. Ilia Kononov dedicated his speech to the differences of the wars of the early twentieth century and modern wars. He pointed out that in modern wars the difference between the front and the rear is very relative. Modern means of impression endanger the entire territory of the country and the entire population. Wars are also devastating for civilians, who are the main victims in modern wars. From a sociological point of view fought in the twentieth century. And are fighting now typologically different societies. In the early twentieth century. They only entered the process of modernization, now they are modernized. These societies had different visions of their future.
