Guest lecture

A guest lecture was held at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications on International Mother Language Day.

On the International Mother Language Day, a guest lecture “Ethnoculture in the Sphere of Sectoral Vocabulary and Phraseology” was held at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Now, future teachers of Ukrainian language and literature, teachers of natural sciences and history (81 people in total) welcomed by Roman Minyailo, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Linguistics, Literature and Teaching Methods of the municipal institution ,,Kharkiv Humanitarian Pedagogical Academy”. This is a university graduate who studied at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and in 1995 received a diploma with honors. In 2001, Roman Viktorovych defended his Ph.D. thesis, in 2021 – his doctoral thesis.

The participants congratulated Roman Viktorovych on the successful completion of a great work, which he called “The Formation of the Lexical and Phraseological Subsystems of the Sphere of Fishing in the Ukrainian Language”, and thanked for the lecture. The audience noted the well-chosen and commented material, an intelligible explanation of the etymology of many old lexemes of the Ukrainian language, which are their roots go back to ancient times.

This conversation was a kind of event for students, because the desire to explain the origin and peculiarities of the use of some Ukrainian words, which in origin reach the Proto-Slavic times, do not have an unambiguous interpretation, and therefore qualify as borrowings. But these are specific Ukrainian lexemes. And it is good that there are such scientists who boldly resort to the denial of the accepted etymology and substantiate their hypotheses, which are recognized by famous scientists. Therefore, we thank Roman Miniailo for an open-hearted conversation in his native language.
