Meeting of the Youth Club of Oriental Cultures

A regular meeting of the Youth Club of Oriental Cultures took place.
The program of the meeting was very busy, because the following issues were on the agenda: acquaintance with new teachers; participation of applicants in two competitions held by the Department of Oriental Languages; preparation for international conferences in May 2022; participation of student government in the meetings of the department; continuation of work on the project “Internationalization at home”.
A meeting began with greetings on the occasion of the New Chinese Year. Associate professors of the department Ms. Daria Perepadya and Ms. Kateryna Shevchenko, who had an internship in China and therefore know the traditions and customs of China, noted that this celebration began on January 31 (New Year’s Eve) and lasted until February 16 – Lantern Festival. They said that each lunar year is part of a cycle of 12 zodiacal animals. This year is the Year of the Tiger, the first since 2010, and the tiger is usually associated with courage, bravery and strength. Traditionally, among the goods offered for the celebration of the New Year, one can see a lot of red – in the Chinese tradition, red brings success and drives away evil spirits, and children are traditionally given red envelopes with money. Applicants learned a lot, for example, about practice known as “zhang sui”.
Associate Professor Yulia Malakhova reminded the applicants about creative competitions (essay and translation competition) and pointed out that the results of the competitions will be evaluated by specialists from other educational institutions of Ukraine and colleagues from China and Japan.
The head of the department Ms. Natalia Fedicheva said that, as before, much attention is paid to attracting applicants to participate in academic programs mobility, international grant programs and competitions, as well as the department will disseminate among applicants all possible practices of non-formal (informal) education. The head of the department also noted that now she pays great attention to more active involvement of practicing professionals, experts, representatives of employers in the classroom.
