Final certification of master’s students at the Geography Department

The final certification of master’s students majoring in 014.07 “Secondary Education. Geography” and 106 “Earth Sciences” took place at the Geography Department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. 

The work of the examination committee was headed by Doctor of Geography, Professor, Head of the Department of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre of the Uman National University of Horticulture – Yurii Oleksandrovych Kyselov.

The theses of master’s students were devoted to topical issues of teaching geography in the context of reforming the Ukrainian School, methodological aspects of teaching geography at school. Of particular interest to the members of the examination committee were the works, the topics of which were devoted to the methodology of teaching geography in inclusive classes, the introduction of technology for the development of critical thinking in the process of teaching geography at school, the use of mental maps, the scientific and methodological support of individual sections and courses of geography, the design of lessons for distance learning, etc. 

Master’s students demonstrated a fairly high level of theoretical and practical training in the subject, knowledge of the school curriculum of geography, possession of modern pedagogical methods of teaching geography, digital technologies. The achievements of master;s students were the author’s development of assignments, fragments of lessons of various types, practical exercises, local history excursions, lessons for the distance form of teaching geography, as well as publications and speeches at scientific conferences. The vast majority of applicants work as teachers in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. For them, studying for a master’s degree is a step on the path of professional development and growth.

The teachers of the Geography Department are grateful to their students for the positive feedback about the educational programs. We wish our new masters not to stop there and successfully implement their projects in their professional activities!
