Virtual Exchange Program for English Language Teachers

A teacher of the Department of Oriental Languages, became a participant in the Virtual Exchange Program for English Language Teachers.

Oksana Husakova, a teacher of the Department of Oriental Languages, became a participant in the Virtual Exchange Program for English Language Teachers “Building Blocks for Service Learning in the Language Classroom” and implemented in cooperation with FHI 360.

This is a 10-week program for up to 40 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers nominated by Regional English Language Officers (RELOs) at various US Embassies and Consulates across the globe. The virtual exchange aims to enhance teachers’ expertise in integrating service learning into their language classrooms both in virtual and face-to-face settings.

During the program, participants will experience and share lessons and best practices on the design and implementation of community projects that promote student motivation and improve learning. They will increase their understanding of effective strategies and steps for designing and carrying out local community service-learning projects, equipping themselves with a toolkit of highly practical resources and activities that can be used to promote student civic engagement through community projects. The virtual exchange program also reinforces best practices for use of educational technology and virtual engagement by highlighting and modeling these throughout the program. The use of Project Based Learning (PBL) methodology guides participants through collaborative teamwork that involves a final project work.
