“Pre-Service English Teacher Methodology Program for Pedagogical Universities” with support from the US Embassy in Ukraine.
On December 15, 2021, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, headed by Rector Olena Karaman, and the Consortium for Enhancement of Ukrainian Management Education with support from the US Embassy in Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Intent and Cooperation within the Project “Pre-Service English Teacher Methodology Program for Pedagogical Universities”. This project started in December 2021 and will last until September 2023.
The head of the working group Olena Byndas, Head of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, together with the Representatives of the University Tetiana Koknova, Professor of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology and Valeria Shkarlet, a lecturer at the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology, a postgraduate student, took part in the first workshops (December 21 and 23, 2021), organized by a Consortium Representative Andriy Haidamashko and Draper Kirke, a Virtual EL specialist of the US Embassy in Ukraine. The work was conducted in three thematic groups: Professional Development Plus, Digital Bridge and Curricular Mobility.
The aim of the “Pre-Service English Teacher Methodology Program for Pedagogical Universities” is to improve the teaching methods of teaching English to future high school English teachers. The project aims to support educational reforms through the dissemination of modern English language teaching methods in Ukraine and to assist partner universities in training qualified and competent teachers for the English language curriculum.
Partner Universities of Ukraine in the Project are: Kharkiv National Pedagogical University named after Hryhoriy Skovoroda, Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Hnatiuk, Melitopol State Pedagogical University named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after Makarenko, National University “Chernihiv Collegium” named after Taras Shevchenko, Donbas State Pedagogical University, and Kremenets Regional Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy named after Taras Shevchenko.
The Representatives of Ukrainian higher educational institutions together with the representatives of the Consortium and the US Embassy in Ukraine will be developing and applying the developed teaching materials for two years to improve English teaching to future English school teachers by supporting distance and face-to-face seminars, trainings and workshops.
