The Department of Ukrainian Language held a lecture-conversation on academic integrity.

On December 21, 2021, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language Halyna Barilova gave a lecture-conversation about academic integrity for higher education applicants of the first (bachelor’s) level of the educational programs “Ukrainian Language and Literature” and “Ukrainian Language and Literature. Language and Literature (English)” specialty 014.01 Secondary Education. Ukrainian Language and Literature.

Responsible for the observance of the rules of academic integrity Halyna Barilova emphasized: “Academic integrity is a set of moral principles and rules determined by law that should be followed by participants in the educational process during learning, teaching and scientific and creative activities in order to ensure trust in the learning outcomes and scientific and creative achievements”.

During the lecture, higher education applicants worked out and analyzed the basic requirements of the Regulations on the academic integrity of the participants in the educational process of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, available to the general public on the university website. According to the Regulation, requirements are provided for the observance of academic integrity by scientific and pedagogical workers and higher education applicants.

The teacher noted that one of the activities of higher education applicants is research work, which should be presented in the form of completed products – coursework, master’s theses, implemented projects, including the results of pedagogical practice, competitive scientific works, articles, theses, etc., as well as completed assignments during independent work and in preparation for practical training.

The lecturer focused the attention of applicants for higher education on observing the rules of academic integrity during preparation for practical classes and oral presentations on scientific topics at scientific and practical conferences at various levels, seminars, round tables and when writing scientific papers of different genres.

Several questions were asked for discussion for the education applicants: what is integrity? what do they know about academic integrity? What violations of academic integrity are there? what is plagiarism and what types of it do they know? and etc.

Participants of the student community expressed their views on problematic issues. “Future language teachers need to be independent, creative, be able to think critically, be responsible for their actions”, Yulia Budantseva noted. Anastasia Bespala, higher education applicant, noted: “Observance of academic integrity is an urgent problem of our time, which needs to be paid attention, starting from school, because plagiarism can harm both education and reputation.”
