Internationalization at home

Intensification of the direction “Internationalization at home” at the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

In accordance with the general concept of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, as well as taking into account the main provisions of the Strategic Plan of the Department of International Relations for 2021-2025 the Department of Oriental Languages continues to work actively in the field of “Internationalization at home”, which provides, inter alia, support and development of the existing multilingual intercultural environment (clubs, intercultural activities, etc.) on the university campus and in the institutional online space, which, in turn, is based on the perception and involvement of best practices of international cooperation to develop communication skills of university students.

In view of the above, the Faculty of Foreign Languages has been introducing a “Virtual Chinese / Japanese Language Class” on a regular basis since December 2021, which provides intensive speaking practice with Chinese / Japanese speakers, aimed at overcoming language and psychological barriers while  mastering these languages. The project involved foreign experts: Ms. Li Weihua, a lecturer at Yunchin University, Mr. Jayle Wu, a graduate of Lanzhou university, China  and Mr. Shinichiro Ozawa, a qualified Japanese as a foreign language teacher who currently works for Japan ICT Learning. A stage of strategic training with the involvement of the administration of the faculty of foreign languages in the person of the dean of the faculty Ms. Iryna Myhovych, head of the department of oriental languages Ms. Natalia Fedicheva and teachers of Chinese and Japanese languages preceded the implementation of the project. On December 8, 2021, the first online meeting on the topic “Students’ Life” was held by Ms. Lee Weihua for students of 2-4 years majoring in Chinese Language.

Following the meeting, the participants noted the relevance and necessity of the project as a whole, because, among other things, its implementation is based on the principles of current pedagogy of the XXI century, such as international collaborative online learning and principles of digital pedagogy, and promotes students’ intercultural skills at the faculty of foreign languages of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
