Students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages took part in the UPSHIFT Youth Program.
The head of the student government of the Foreign Languages Department Valeriia Likhacheva, as well as the deputy head of the student government Kateryna Grechishkina and the head of the student dormitory Maryana Maksylevych took an active part in the UPSHIFT youth program. The UPSHIFT Global Innovation Program is implemented by UNICEF in 23 countries around the world to teach young people 21st century skills and spread knowledge about social innovation. Participation in the program involves working with mentors and financial support for youth initiatives aimed at solving youth problems and finding innovative solutions for their communities.
The team of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University worked on the problem of insufficient qualification of foreign language teachers in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. As a solution to this problem, the girls suggested practical work with teachers and the creation of a website that will facilitate this work. The site will contain information on the following blocks: psychological work, the use of online games, interactive sites for creating your own games in Power-Point and the incentive system. Practical work should include online meetings with teachers involving experts and specialists. The peculiarity of the project is that teachers not only get acquainted with new teaching methods and tools, but also immediately apply them in practice, talk about difficulties and work with team members to solve problems. After mastering and practical application of the new material, teachers should receive a motivational set: a certificate, a set of stickers to encourage students and a board game for motivational classes.
The girls had the opportunity to go to Sviatohirsk and work in teams with the mentors, as well as analyze problems, look for solutions, test problems thanks to other participants in the program. Our talented and very active students have expanded their experience by feeling like teachers in practice, as well as making new contacts, spending productive time and now having the opportunity to demonstrate new skills in future internships and, in general, in future teaching careers.
The Department is proud of its students who are active participants in international programs. We wish you further success, development and new achievements!
