Participation in the International Training Course

The master’s student of the Design Department  of the ER ICSTT took part in the International Training Course.

In July-November 2021, a first-year higher education applicant of the II (master’s) level Angelina Chepel took part in the European Design Upgrade Project. The venue was the city of Kharkiv in the first innovation park in Eastern Ukraine “Unit.Kharkiv”. 

Angelina, as part of the BET ON ART team, has set the goal of turning the city of Starobilsk into art objects and spreading the culture of delivering important values ​​and information to citizens through contemporary art. With the aim of self-development and self-improvement, the higher education applicant acquired theoretical and practical skills on the Project.

European Design Upgrade: Transnational Capacity Building (EDU) is an interdisciplinary project for the professional development of young designers and the development of creative teams, developed in collaboration with leading expert teachers from three countries: Belgium, Ukraine and Finland. It is implemented in partnership with the K.Fund, GoLocal and Brussels Creative innovation and technology hubs in Belgium and Urban Mill in Finland.

The European Design Upgrade has brought together designers, artists, architects, scientists, IT specialists and entrepreneurs to address the current challenges of urban ecosystems, search for developments and solutions that can be implemented at the local or European level.

Participation in the project was free, but it was carried out on a competitive basis according to the application form and interviews with the curators of the project.

The aim of the program was:

  • raising one’s own awareness and competitiveness;
  • expanding the professional worldview;
  • understanding of the latest trends and achievements of European design used in the implementation of the European Design Upgrade project in 2020 and preparation for the participation of Ukrainian designers in Dutch Design Week 2020.

The course included the following blocks of lectures:

  • philosophy and design concept;
  • urban design and innovative technologies;
  • business strategies for the development of sustainable design;
  • humanistic design of the future.

The course program was developed on the basis of 1.5-2 hour webinars from leading Ukrainian, Finnish and Belgian lecturers, representatives of creative industries with a total duration of about 42 hours. Also, online meetings and workshops were organized with the finalists of previous years.

After training, design ideas were finalized at 2-day hackathons and presented to the business community at the final project pitching in Unit.Kharkiv.

The ideas of the finalists of the project received feedback from business partners and were given the opportunity to undergo an internship.
