Participation in the School of Academic Integrity

Students majoring in 061 “Journalism” attended a training on academic integrity.

On October 20, 2021 at 14:00, students majoring in 061 “Journalism” led by Artem Halych, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Head of the Department of Journalism and Publishing, took part in a workshop with training elements at the School of Academic Integrity, held in the library of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National Universityˮ.

The event was moderated by Tetiana Ulanovska, head teacher of the School of Academic Integrity, bibliographer of the 1st category of the library, who noted that academic integrity is an integral part of the educational process and, first of all, you need to adhere to its principles starting with yourself.

For failure to comply with good faith principles, higher education applicants and research and teaching staff may be brought to disciplinary responsibility. Referring to the principles of academic integrity such as honesty, respect, responsibility, transparency, courage, trust, which are the life credo of journalists in their professional activities, it was explained how to avoid plagiarism when quoting, paraphrasing and generalizing. Also on the screen was presented the standard for formatting the list of references DSTU 8302: 2015, which must be observed, and anti-plagiarism programs that determine the amount of originality of the text.

In conclusion, Tetiana gave examples of violations in compliance with academic integrity, namely, academic plagiarism and its varieties (copying, paraphrasing, compiling, self-plagiarism), fabrication, falsification, academic fraud, academic bribery. All participants of the event received certificates.

We hope that such meetings, which have become traditional, will contribute to the observance of academic integrity by our students and scientific and pedagogical workers, who increase not only the prestige of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”, but also the entire system of higher education in Ukraine.
