Cooperation agreement with China took effect

The meeting of the Club began with the report of the Chinese language teacher’s Olena Ovcharenko about an extraordinary event: our university signed an agreement on cooperation with China.

Acting Rector Vitaly Kurilo signed a cooperation agreement with the Ukrainian-Chinese Center for the Development of Culture and Education. For 5 years, teachers and students of our university and China will implement joint projects and programs in the field of education and science. It is important, the teacher emphasized, that the cooperation has already begun. Thus, three fourth-year students studying Chinese as the first foreign language, namely Ekaterina Gaivoronskaya, Alexandra Halimon and Maria Grechanaya, perform creative assignments sent to them by the Ukrainian-Chinese Center for the Development of Culture and Education (hereinafter the Center). In addition, the Center sends translation materials to translation applicants undergoing translation practice.

Next, Olena gave the floor to the applicant Ekaterina Gaivoronsky, who told the audience about the creative task she is currently performing, and also addressed on behalf of Inna Zinevich, Deputy Director of the Center, with a proposal to join applicants for education of 1-3 courses to perform creative tasks, participate in competitions and other interesting activities of the Center. The best works will be marked with diplomas and gifts from the Center. Ekaterina Gaivoronskaya said that the Center’s proposals are posted in the group on Facebook.

The next item on the agenda of the meeting of the Club of Oriental Languages was the report “Educational sketches from China: how to teach in Chinese schools.” The floor was given to Gleb Ovcharenko, a master’s student majoring in Language and Literature (Chinese). He noted that Confucius’ phrase “Study as if you are constantly lacking in knowledge and as if you are constantly afraid of losing your knowledge” aptly describes the world’s largest education system. The whole system of education in China, Gleb stressed, is aimed at achieving the highest results, so the main reason for successful education is the attention and support of the state. Teacher in China is an honorable and respected profession. The teacher is a priority for the state and for every family. The teacher in China is called the word “Laoshi”, it translates as “teacher” and causes awe and delight. The Chinese government is paying serious attention to raising the social status of teachers. Each school has its own slogan, for example: “Smart and disciplined, active and healthy!”. Discipline in Chinese schools is strict: it is worth missing 10-15 lessons without good reason – and the student is expelled. In China, attention is paid to everyone: students perform a set of exercises several times a day to develop and improve posture, maintain health  of arms and eyes. Special emphasis is placed on students sitting up straight.

There was a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at the meeting, students talked, asked questions to Olena, Gleb and Katerina. There was a lively and interesting dialogue. At the end of the event, the chairman of the Oriental Languages Club, a first-grader Zlata Pshenichnykh, acquainted the audience with the Regulations on the Youth Club of Oriental Cultures of the Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. The meeting took place on October 13, 2021, and was the second meeting in the current school year.
