A meeting of the student scientific circle “Ecological Club” took place.
At the end of September, a regular meeting of members of the student scientific circle “Ecological Club” was held under the leadership of Candidate of Biological Sciences, senior lecturer of the Department of Gardening and Ecology Mykyta Mykolaiovych Peregrym. The meeting of the circle members took place not in the usual auditorium, but in the open air, on the territory of the Starobilsk district.
The topic of the visiting session was “Adventure Vegetation in the South-East of Ukraine and its Impact on Natural and Artificial Phytocenoses”, during the discussion of which, the members of the circle had the opportunity not only to hear the scientific evidence base, but also to visually see the process of impact on natural phytocenoses of Starobilsk district by alien plants, or as botanists call them, adventive plants.
The members of the circle learned about the newcomers to the local plant world from North and South America, Africa and the Middle East and saw how they can “capture new territories”, suppress local vegetation, pose a threat to biodiversity, cause economic and environmental damage, and sometimes direct harm to human health.
At the end of the meeting of the Ecological Club, the students thanked the teacher-scientist Mykyta Peregrym for an interesting and meaningful meeting, and also expressed their wish to repeat such visiting meetings.
The work of the circle continues. The next meeting, according to the work plan of the scientific circle “Ecological Club”, is scheduled for the end of October.
