A memorial plaque in honor of Jose Kraveirinha was solemnly opened at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
Today, October 7, 2021, a significant event took place at our university – a memorial plaque was solemnly opened in honor of the national poet, public and political figure, fighter for the independence of the Republic of Mozambique, Jose Craveirinha. This event took place thanks to the well-known in Ukraine and the world Public Organization “Ukrainian Initiative” – the university’s partner in cultural exchange and dialogue between different peoples and nationalities, as well as strengthening the image of Ukraine and the University in the international arena.
The Acting Rector Oleksandr Babichev addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. She noted that this event is extremely important for the university, because we have opened another new page in the international relations of the HEI.
The right to open the memorial plaque was given to the Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Olena Karaman and the head of the center of the Public Organization “Ukrainian Initiative” in the Luhansk region Oleh Yakubov. The guest of honor is a reliable partner of the university in establishing cultural ties between different peoples and nationalities, as well as strengthening the image of Ukraine and the University in the international arena.
José Craveirinha is an outstanding world-class figure. The next year he was supposed to be 100 years old, because he was born on May 28, 1922 in the city of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. This talented personality successfully combined the qualities of a poet, a public figure, an athlete and a journalist. He is the recipient of the highest literary prize in the Portuguese-speaking world and is a nominee for the Nobel Prize in Literature. His works are widely distributed all over the world and have been translated into many languages, including Ukrainian.
We sincerely thank the Public Organization “Ukrainian Initiative” for the fact that it was at our university, for the first time in Ukraine, that the memory of such an outstanding figure was honored. This is a great honor for the entire university family. We hope that cooperation between the countries in the educational and scientific spheres will be fruitful and effective!
