The teaching staff of the Psychology Department took part in the training.
Teachers of the Psychology Department of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology Tetiana Pashko, Tetiana Fedotova and Anton Nazmiiev attended a three-day training on the EMDR (desensitization and reprocessulation) psychotherapeutic method in the city of Slaviansk. The organizer of the event was the public organization “PRO MIR” (a unique stable organization that creates a society of cooperation, freedom and responsibility).
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), EMDR is internationally recognized as one of the most effective treatments for PTSD.
During the event, the trainers noted that, in the EMDR method, trauma is processed by simultaneously mentioning the traumatic material and following the patient’s gaze to the right-left movement of the therapist’s hand or another form of bilateral stimulation (successive touches to the left-right palm, audio stimulation, etc.). It is assumed that such a double focus of attention – on the traumatic material and on stimuli, alternately activates the left / right hemisphere, orients the person’s attention to what is happening, here and nowˮ – activates the mechanism of accelerated processing of information and contributes to the integration of traumatic memories into explicit, narrative memory, and therefore leads to a reduction in PTSD symptoms.
The Trainer Chef Berendsen says, “The high efficacy of EMDR in the treatment of PTSD has been established by a large body of rigorous scientific research.”
The result of the training was the obtained effective skills that can be used in practical activities, namely in working with the traumatic experience of a person.
