Rector’s elections

The elections of the Rector were held at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
On September 23, 2021, education applicants, teachers and employees of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University elected the Rector. They made their choice at six polling stations located in Starobilsk, Lysychansk, Rubizhne, Shchastia, Kreminna and Poltava. At the polling stations, all anti-epidemiological measures were taken into account for the safety of voters.
Vitalii Kurylo, Chairman of the Academic Council of LTSNU, noted: “We elect the 24th rector in the university history, among whom were two women – Nina Evheniivna Barshchevska and Oksana Dmiytrivna Krotova. They were acting rectors, because it fell on difficult times of the Second World War after the university returned from evacuation. Now we are electing a female rector and wish her victory and fruitful work in this positionˮ.
The organizing committee of the main election commission was headed by the Director of the Educational and Research Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences Anton Bader: “The elections are organized according to a new procedure, which has been used for the third time. It is very similar to the procedures for electing a president or people’s deputies. There are ballot boxes, booths, ballots are issued only with signature, that is, everything is transparent, honest and secret.
The entire teaching staff of the university voted, delegates were elected from non-scientific, scientific and pedagogical workers, as well as students of all structural subdivisions. In total, 813 voters were to take part in the voting. At polling station No. 1, voting booths and ballot boxes were installed on the first floor of the main building of the HEI. Voting started at 9.00 and lasted until 15.00. The vote counting procedure lasted for about two hours and at 4:40 pm the results were announced: 721 votes in favour; 7 votes against; 5 ballots are invalid.
By a majority of votes, the university team entrusted the right to head the university to Olena Karaman, who was the only candidate for this position.
The main goal of the newly elected rector’s work is to ensure the training of the competitiveness of specialists based on the organic unity of high quality, fundamental and professional content, integration in the international educational and scientific space, patriotism, while promoting personal and professional self-realization throughout life for the sustainable and innovative development of the University, the region, state and society in a changing world, internal and external challenges for the further reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories.
The plans of Olena Leonidivna’s future activities include the modernization of the organizational and management system and the creation of effective management at the University; the quality of education and educational activities of the university; development of research and innovation activities; international activity and integration in the world educational and scientific space; student centrism and the development of student initiatives; development of the social and humanitarian sphere; development of material and technical base, social infrastructure and financial and economic activities.
The university staff supported Olena Karaman’s candidacy for the post of the Rector, seeing her as a highly professional and reliable leader. We wish the Rector wisdom, patience, support of colleagues, striving for development and success in a new position!
