LTSNU and German-Ukrainian Academic Cooperation

Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University has been involved in the international program within the framework of German-Ukrainian Academic Cooperation 2020 – 2021.

State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” represented by the Head of International Relations Office, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Ms. Iryna Myhovych, from January 2020 up to September 2021 has been involved in the international program “Management of Internationalization and German-Ukrainian Academic Cooperation 2020 – 2021”, launched by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD), supported by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, German-Ukrainian Academic Society, and German Association of Managers of Science in partnership with Leibniz University of Hanover. Apart from LTSNU, 17 Ukrainian higher education institutions participated in the programme, including Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, Cherkasy State Technological University, Ivan Franko Lviv National University, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Kharkiv National University named after V.N. Karazin, Sumy State University, Ternopil National Technical University named after Ivan Pulyuy, Chernihiv National Technological University, Ternopil National Medical University named after I.Ya. Horbachevskyi, Kharkiv National Automobile and Road University, Kyiv National University of Technology and Design, Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University, Poltava National Pedagogical University named after V.H. Korolenko, Lutsk National Technical University, Kharkiv National Agrarian University named after V.V. Dokuchaev, Berdiansk State Pedagogical University.

Vision of the programme is to provide representatives of Ukrainian higher education institutions with comprehensive knowledge on the implementation of internationalization process in educational, research, and administrative activities of universities, as well as to promote German-Ukrainian academic cooperation. According to official representatives of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the programme is of particular value for national higher education system of Ukraine, since by involving 18 leading educational institutions of the country it will assist in promoting further integration of Ukraine into the European Higher Education (Research) Area, ensuring the competitiveness of the selected universities by expanding opportunities for international cooperation, participation in international projects and programmes and, correspondingly, improving the quality of educational services and research activities of each of the participating universities.

As a part of the programme, Forum “Internationalization of Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions 2021: German-Ukrainian Experience” was held on September 8-9, 2021 by the International Office of Leibniz University of Hanover and Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, which was organized to promote the exchange of knowledge and ideas in the field of internationalization of higher education in Ukraine and Germany. Among speakers of the Forum there were leading Ukrainian and German experts on internationalization of education and research, rectors of Ukrainian and German higher education institutions, vice-rectors for international relations, heads and staff of research units, international and project offices. During the Forum, Iryna Myhovych presented the results of the pilot implementation of the programme at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University under the general title “Internationalization Support Program Aimed at the Enhancement of the Quality of Educational Services in the Field of Pedagogy”, which included developing and introducing educational programmes and trainings aimed at the development of intercultural and entrepreneurial competences of students; developing and introducing educational programmes taught in foreign (English) languages; enhancing outgoing and incoming mobility of students; establishing internationally friendly academic environment at LTSNU. According to Ms. Myhovych, in LTSNU the strategic aspects of internationalization in relation to educational component provided for the development of new educational programmes and training courses including elements of internationalization-at-home, which allows, for example, for students not leaving home institution and at the same time taking part in workshops, etc. conducted all over the world. During the Forum there have as well been discussed current trends in internationalization in higher education, competences for internationalization (global, multicultural, entrepreneurial, etc.), aspects of academic mobility and international cooperation in research; participants have been provided with informational support on the issues of financing international cooperation from prestigious foreign foundations and educational organizations.
