The staff of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University expresses its sincere condolences on the death of Ivan Prokopenko – the Rector’s Advisor of the H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.

On June 29, 2021, the entire educational community of Ukraine is experiencing an incomprehensible loss – the Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Public Education of Ukraine, Honorary Citizen of Kharkiv, Advisor to the Rector of the H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University Ivan Fedorovych Prokopenko.

The university was his life, because for 40 years of his work as Rector, the HEI became the standard of quality pedagogical and economic education. The famous scientist worked in the field of new pedagogical technologies of teaching and upbringing, economic education, the history of economic thought in Ukraine. He headed the development and implementation into the practice of higher educational institutions of the concept of intensifying the educational activities of students. Since 1965, Ivan Fedorovych worked with students in various teaching positions, which is evidence of his openness, sincerity, benevolence, professionalism and responsiveness. Since 1992, he was a full member of the Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine and a member of its Presidium. Ivan Fedorovych – academician-founder of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. He showed living energy and light, he was serious, attentive and positive.

Proof of this are the awards with which he began to dazzle since the distant 1958 (Order “Sign of Respect”) and shone them throughout his life, for example, the title of honor “Honored Worker of Public Education of Ukraine” (1990); Medal “Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi” of the NAES of Ukraine (1996); Honorary distinction of the President of Ukraine “For Merit” II degree (2010); Medals and other awards of the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Certificates of Honor of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Certificate of Honor of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

It is difficult to find such words that could reduce the mental pain from the loss of a loved one … This is a huge loss for the entire pedagogical and scientific sphere, not only in Ukraine, but also abroad. Colleagues, please accept the sincere words of grief from the staff of our University who grieve with you. A scientist and a great man passed away from life, but the bright memories of him, his good deeds and merits are stronger than death. He will forever remain in our memory.

We believe that the All-Merciful Lord will accept his bright and sincere soul into the Kingdom of Heaven.
