14-volume edition of Lesia Ukrainka’s works in the university library

The university library received a 14-volume edition of Lesia Ukrainka’s works from the Ukrainian Institute.

The university library received a 14-volume edition of Lesia Ukrainka’s works from the Ukrainian Institute. The authors of this project were scientists from the Lesia Ukrainka Volyn National University.

A distinctive feature of this edition is that it is the most complete edition of our famous writer and translator. The compilers restored the structure of the texts, from which individual fragments had previously been removed, preserved copyright edits in the texts, etc.

The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Lesia Ukrainka Volyn National University notes: “Our publication is not just complete, but also academic. In addition to the texts, each volume contains notes and comments. And these are very important fragments for understanding the creative phenomenon of Lesia Ukrainka, her personality, the system of connections with many phenomena and figures of Ukrainian and world culture, and so on. In these notes, we give fragments that Lesia Ukrainka herself seized or that the editors seized during her lifetime, with or without her consent. Therefore, reading Lesia Ukrainka’s texts and comments, where you can trace her entire creative process, we will already have a complete picture of who she was, what she was thinking about, with whom she communicated … ˮ. A significant number of texts were last published in the 1910-1920s.

It is pleasant to note that our library was included in the small number of libraries that received a printed copy of the publication. The circulation is only 1.5 thousand copies.

Let’s note that all volumes are available online with hyperactive notes and commentaries. This approach allows everyone to get acquainted with the work of the famous Ukrainian writer in any convenient format: on a tablet, phone, laptop, etc.

Unfortunately, the library cannot now hold a full-scale presentation of the admission due to quarantine conditions, but an open event is planned in September together with the authors of the project.

You can view the publication in the reading room of the university library.
