Opening of the memorial plaque

A memorial plaque to Vira Roik was opened in the city of Poltava.
Due to the World Vyshyvanka Day, in Poltava, in the building of the former Mariinsky gymnasium, a memorial plaque was opened to the outstanding Ukrainian embroiderer, a native of Poltava, Hero of Ukraine – Vira Roik (1911-2010).
The author of the memorial plaque is Dmytro Korshunov, senior lecturer of the Department of Fine and Decorative and Applied Arts of the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts.
Vira Roik is a master of artistic embroidery. She was born on April 25, 1911 in the city of Lubny, Poltava region. She perfectly mastered 300 types of embroidery techniques of the peoples of the world. Her works are in 45 museums around the world, she was a participant in many art exhibitions and organized personal exhibitions, during which the master held master classes, gave lectures on the Ukrainian art of embroidery, gave advice to everyone interested in embroidery. On her initiative, a museum of decorative arts of folk craftsmen and a painting salon of amateur artists of the Crimea were created.
