35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster

The Institute of Culture and Arts held curatorial hours dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

On April 26, the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts held a curatorial hour on the Zoom platform, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the largest man-made disaster in the world.

At the Department of Fine and Decorative and Applied Arts, students, together with curators Oleksii Sobolevskyi, Tetiana Polishchuk, Dmytro Korshunov and Artur Aroian, prepared presentations of works by artists who created works on the topic of the Chernobyl accident. Students of different courses made presentations and reports: Khrystyna Volyk, Andrii Kolesnichenko, Oleksii Korshunov, Artem Ochnev and Valeria Varakina. The video of the liquidators was revised. The plans for the future regarding the territory of the exclusion zone were also highlighted.

A week before the curatorial hour, curators of the Department of Musical Art and Choreography Tetiana Ostretsova and Zoia Tsybulnyk invited students to watch the mini-series “Chornobyl” filmed by HBO in 2019, based on real events and archival materials with a subsequent discussion. The 3rd year students Maria Karnaukh, Yelyzaveta Brynova and Sofia Svirid made reports on this topic.  During the event, students had the opportunity watch the documentaries “Chornobyl. How the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant happened” and “April 26 is the Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl tragedy”. The curators also shared with the students their own memories of this day.

At the Department of Culturology, Cinema and TV-Arts, curator Alona Tereshchenko told the students some facts about the Chernobyl disaster and its impact on art. The short film-post-symphony “Arka” was revised. Students got acquainted with such Ukrainian art projects as “Sounds of Chernobyl” and “ARTEFACT”.

In addition to the curatorial hours, information about the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster was provided on the pages in social networks of the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts.

With this event, students and teachers of the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts honored the feat of the participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Attention was also paid to rethinking the Chernobyl disaster through art.
