20th anniversary of the Institute of Economics and Business

The Educational and Research Institute of Economics and Business celebrates the 20th anniversary of its foundation.

Twenty years have passed since the founding of the institute. It was then, thanks to numerous petitions from the university leadership, by order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, on the basis of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Luhansk Taras Shevchenko State Pedagogical University, a new structural subdivision in all respects was created – the INSTITUTE OF ECONOMY AND BUSINESS.

A prerequisite for the creation of the Institute of Economics and Business was the licensing of a new direction for mathematics teachers at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. In particular, in 1999, thanks to the initiative and support of the Rector of Luhansk State Pedagogical Institute Vitalii Kurylo, the qualification “Teacher of the Basics of Economics” in the direction of training “Mathematics” was opened. Since then, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics began to develop rapidly.

In 1999, the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics became the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Mathematics Department – Valerii Khmel.

The next stage was licensing in 2000 of two new specialties: “Management of Organizations” and “Finance”. And in 2001, in accordance with the needs of the labor market for new specialists, one of the first institutes within the Luhansk State Pedagogical University was created – the Institute of Economics and Business.

In 2004, the Institute undergoes licensing of the magistracy and acquires the fourth level of accreditation in all open specialties.

In 2008, the Institute of Economics and Business has fourteen departments and twelve specialties. About 3000 students study here. In the same year, to improve the quality of the educational process, the Institute created educational and methodological centers. In order to improve the quality of training, the institute was divided into three structural subdivisions.

In 2014, the Institute, like the entire University, was forced to leave their native walls and continue their educational activities in the new city.

Despite the difficulties, lack of materials, technical and scientific base, the teachers of our Institute remained loyal to Ukraine and their native Alma Mater.

Now in the Educational and Research Institute of Economics and Business, three departments operate: the Department of Management, the Department of Economics, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, as well as the Department of Finance, Accounting and Banking. Teachers of each department are active participants in many scientific events, international and all-Ukrainian conferences, Olympiads and competitions.

An important area of ​​the Institute’s activities is social and humanitarian work. So, during the last academic year, our students took part in many university and regional activities.

It has become a good tradition for the Institute to hold a celebration of initiation into students for freshmen, a competition “Hello, We Are Looking for Talents”, celebration of Maslenitsa. The opening of the Youth Business Club was a special event. Students have the opportunity to network with successful entrepreneurs, gain practical experience in running a business and overcoming problems that arise.

The Educational and Research Institute of Economics and Business continues to be active. There are still a number of new achievements and victories ahead, which will become possible thanks to the well-coordinated work of a powerful team of scientists and students.
