Lecture on radioecology

An open lecture on topical issues of radioecology on the topic “Radioecology: Ukrainian Dimension” was held at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. 

The lecture was delivered by Liudmyla Raichuk – Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Senior Researcher, Head of the Department of Radioecology and Remote Sensing of Landscapes of the Institute of Agroecology and Nature Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

During the lecture, the topical issues of the causes, conditions and consequences of the terrible catastrophic explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which occurred on April 26, 1986 in the city of Chernobyl, Kyiv region, were highlighted.

Liudmyla Anatoliivna made a meaningful and interesting presentation with detailed power unit diagrams and illustrated the human and technical factors that caused the explosion.

Teachers and education applicants showed interest in the topic of the lecture, asked the lecturer a number of questions: about the further consequences of the explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on human health and the environment in general; on the control of food products that are collected near the exclusion zone; how dangerous is tourism to the site of the tragedy; ways and directions of restoration of forests and the entire ecosystem of the alienated territory.

At the end of the meeting, teachers and students thanked for the presentation and expressed a wish for further cooperation in the direction of solving problematic issues of improving the environmental situation in Ukraine. In turn, Liudmyla Anatoliivna wished the students success in their studies!
