Job opportunities in Japan
15.3.2021
Recently, the Faculty of Foreign Languages hosted a meeting of LNU students studying Japanese with a leading specialist of the Japanese company Yume Global Haruna Aoki.
Students and teachers listened with great interest to a presentation on learning and employment opportunities in Japan. Haruna Aoki noted that working in Japan for Ukrainians is a very real task, especially for those who have sufficient qualifications and experience. During the presentation, Haruna Aoki reminded that Japan has one of the most powerful economies in the world, and this is facilitated by the widespread use of advanced technologies and a disciplined workforce. The country has a high standard of living, unemployment is about 3%, and inflation is virtually absent. It was also noted that the population of Japan is about 127 million people, and the bulk of local citizens – 72.2% – are employed in services, 26.6% – in industry, and agriculture accounts for just over 1%.
She then reported on the main industries in Japan where vacancies are available for foreigners. These include information technology, electronics, food industry, financial and banking sector, trade, design, hospitality, catering (restaurants). The students were surprised by the fact that the number of companies in Japan is one million one hundred thousand.
Wages in Japan for those who are just starting to work is 240, 000 thousand Japanese yen ($ 2,500). At the end of the year, each employee receives a bonus, or thirteenth salary, which is 1.5 monthly salaries. It is very difficult to find a job in Japan in the field of unskilled labor. And without knowledge of the Japanese language it is completely unrealistic.
Haruna Aoli noted that in almost every case a foreigner will need knowledge of the Japanese language at level N 3. Employers pay special attention to the resume (CV). She spoke in detail about what should be written in a quality resume and gave examples of resumes in Japanese. Yes, it is important to indicate one’s competitive advantages, experience, skills, strengths and weaknesses, available certificates, etc. She told in detail about the interview, how to behave and dress and recommended a smile. Haruna Aoki then spoke about the types of contracts.
Finding suitable vacancies in Japan is very difficult. Personal contacts and acquaintances play an important role. But Haruna Aoki offered our students free help with writing a resume in Japanese and preparing for an interview.
The meeting was very fruitful and interesting for all present. At the end of the meeting the Head of the Department of Oriental Languages Fedicheva N.V. invited Haruna to take part in the international conference “Modern Trends in Oriental Studies”, in April 2021 in the city of Poltava.
