Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University honored the memory of the Great Kobzar.
Today, March 9, 2021, we celebrate the 207th anniversary of the birth of the genius of the Ukrainian people – Taras Shevchenko. His prophetic word signifies the free spirit and freedom of the entire Ukrainian nation. It awakens love for their homeland, calls on the strong to heroic deeds and instills hope and faith in the weak.
Our higher educational institution has been bearing the proud name of this Great Ukrainian for more than 80 years, therefore it is our honorable duty to honor the memory of Taras Shevchenko.
In the morning, the staff of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko honored the memory of the Great Kobzar near the monument on the central square of the city. Students solemnly recited the poetry of the People’s Poet. The leading events noted: “Shevchenko is inexhaustible and endless. By the will of history, it is identified with Ukraine and, together with its existence, continues with it, absorbing new days and new experience of the people, responding to new pains and thoughts, becoming to new trials of fate. It is also significant that the anthem of our university sounded on the city square.
In gratitude for the invaluable spiritual assets – works and bright good memory of themselves, Shevchenko residents together with local residents laid flowers at the monument. Thus, they expressed their respect to the Great Kobzar.
The festivities continued with an exhibition of scientific achievements of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications in the university library. It was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications Tetiana Pinchuk, who spoke about the history of the faculty, its activities, teachers’ and students’ achievements.
The faculty annually organizes all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences, publishes collections of scientific papers and initiates literary and artistic interactive projects.
The pride of the structural subdivision is the high achievements of students in international, all-Ukrainian, regional competitions, obtaining the honorary title “The Best University Student” and the appointment of personal scholarships of the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, Viacheslav Chornovol.
The faculty staff deeply respects the memory of Taras Shevchenko, multiplying it in the conduct of the Shevchenko week, holding various competitions. Thus, in a solemn atmosphere, the winners of three competitions were awarded: a thematic photographs competition, a competition for illustrations for the works by Kobzar and a competition for expressive reading of poetry by Taras Shevchenko.
Yes, we are Shevchenko’s people! We are inspired by his moral purity, his sense of social and national justice, especially his dedication to truth and freedom. Let the prophetic word of Taras Shevchenko live not only on the pages of textbooks, but also in our souls!
