A book presentation dedicated to the 100th anniversary of LTSNU took place at the university library.

March 1, 2021 Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University celebrates its 100th anniversary. During this time, the university has gone through a difficult path of formation and restoration. In order to perpetuate our history, 3 rectors of the HEI: Anatolii Klymov, Vitalii Kurylo and Serhii Savchenko wrote the book “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. Pages of History (1921-2021) ˮ.

Unfortunately, only 2 authors attended the event, because not long before the publication of the book, Anatolii Klymov died. Anatolii Oleksiiovych made a significant contribution to the preparation of materials. He wrote the first part of the edition until the early 1990s.

Vitalii Kurylo spoke in detail about the book. According to him, it begins on February 15, 1921. On this day the first official document was signed, which confirms the founding of the Donetsk Higher Pedagogical Courses. They are the foundation of our university. The document that says about March 1 was found earlier, and it indicates that this is the official start date of these courses.

Serhii Savchenko spoke about the importance of this publication: “This book is the fruit of many months of work by a team of authors headed by Vitalii Kurylo. In my opinion, the main goal of creating this publication is to identify our scientific achievements in the scientific space of Ukraine. This book allows us to say that in the east of Ukraine, the educational process began precisely from our higher educational institution. It demonstrates the solidity and prospects of our universityˮ.

The book is divided into a number of sections covering the pre-war activities of the university (until 1945), then post-war (until the 1990s), activities after Ukraine gained independence, from a pedagogical to a classical university, and the last section – “In the vastness of the Luhansk region: university where there is free Ukraineˮ. It has been dedicated to the activities of the university since 2014. There are sections devoted to achievements in science, culture, sports. Among the applications are “Rectors”, “Famous Scientists in the University History”, “Honorary University Professors”, “Honorary Doctors of the University”, “Honorary Workers of the University”, “Members of the Supervisory Council”.

The fact that our university is a real history of a real higher educational institution is evidenced by the list of literature and primary sources on the basis of which the book was written. It contains a lot of archival materials, which contain all the facts of the life of the university, its teachers, employees, students.

The book cover was also chosen for a reason. It depicts stone women as a symbol of the history of Alma Mater and our region, that our university also has its deep roots and it is no coincidence that this oldest monument of history and culture of the Luhansk region is located on the territory of the oldest educational institution in our region.

On behalf of the student body, the students of the ER IPP thanked the authors of the book for this unique gift: “This is indeed a great job that will allow us all to plunge into the history of the university and admire it even more. Now we understand that our university is a magnificent creation of many generations of both teachers and students. And we promise to carry the name of the university, glorify it and try to contribute to its powerful history so that it never stops.

The circulation of this book is 500 pieces. Part of it will be donated to guests who come to celebrate the University’s birthday and part of the edition will go on sale. Now you can buy this edition in the library of our university.
